The Valheim roleplay server has many unique features that set it apart from your standard Valheim server and many other modded servers. Here, you will find answers to some of the commonly asked questions and general information about how your VRP experience might differ.
Note: Admins do not provide features, items, or geographical landmarks for players on demand.
The server employs “Seasons” to keep things new and fresh for our players. Each season is a self-contained story, and you will be required to make a new character each season based on that season's theme and lore.
Each season will feature a custom map, biome placement, landmasses, and other terrain features that will complement the theme and lore of the season. Spawn areas (mods and biomes) may not follow Vanilla expectations.
Being a roleplay server is one of the major things that sets us apart from other Valheim servers. The story is prioritized over gameplay. This means you will not have access to all biomes when the season starts. We will, typically, have time/story-gated progression (ages: Stone (meadows), bronze, iron, silver, black metal, Etir, flamatel).
A new age will give you access to new recipes (often class-exclusive) and new places to explore.
Traditionally, in Valheim, everyone can do or make anything they might need. It is excellent for a single-player run or just killing time with a few friends.
Here in VRP, we use a class/profession system (Think MMO ); these are crafting specializations. Giving each class access to unique crafting recipes only their class can make. This helps you create a unique character and adds variety and demand within the server player base. You must interact with other players to get crafted goods outside your class.
More interactions = More Roleplay
Class options and descriptions can be found here.
Weapon Specialization - These are not restricted to class; anyone can use anything. Your weapon specialization will give you a higher weapon skill based on weapon type.
Crafting
All players, regardless of class, have access to essential crafting recipes. (Crude box, stone or flint axes, etc.) More complicated recipes will be restricted by class and by age progression. If you think you are missing something, create a ticket on Discord, and the staff will help you.
You will be asked to choose a class and weapon specialization for your character application. If there is an error in your application, Create a ticket. Both can be changed anytime before you log in to the game for the first time. After that, you need to apprentice with another (willing) player with the specialization or Class you wish to change to.
Apprenticeships must take at least 3 IRL days ( sometimes more) of RP to be considered complete/valid. The method by which this is done is up to the teacher. Once completed, you or your teacher will create a ticket on Discord so admins can confirm and make changes.
Other players are not required to take on an apprentice if approached.
We have items you will not find in vanilla, either through mods or custom creations. You never know what you will find in each season.
In vanilla, you can repair armor and weapon durability instantly. No resources, no time.
One of the biggest things that makes our server different is our unique repair system
Death in Vanilla Valheim is pretty simple. When you die, you are sent back to spawn. In VRP, we have a rule of three. Three deaths in a row, and you get sent back to the spawn area. This minimizes interference in some roleplay situations (fights or robberies, for example). It also allows for great medical Rp operations. However, there are still consequences for being knocked out and sent back to spawn. When knocked out, you will receive a “wounded” debuff and have a chance of losing random resources. This includes valuable items, gold, and bees. So be careful what you carry with you.
How it works
Note If you are knocked out, you should Roleplay as being injured/wounded. If your character is knocked out or sent back to the stones, it does not mean they are dead. Permanent character death is at the player's discretion.
Portals are only placeable by admins. Most commonly, you will see these as permanent structures in the world placed by admins. These are public, and like all public areas, they must remain unrestricted (No wards, no buildings, etc. Players are not allowed to make changes within render distance of public areas.
How portals are obtained can vary from season to season. They could require completing a quest, buying them from some mysterious NPC, or figuring out a puzzle, just to name a few.
Towns can also purchase a private portal to use as they see fit. These special portals can be enclosed and locked with wards if the town chooses.
Wards are an essential tool In Valheim. In VRP, even our wards are unique; these special wards use custom resources to build and maintain. Wards expire after ten days and unlock. You can feed them by placing more floam in your hotbar and using it on the ward, giving them ten more days of life.
A player is allowed two wards in total—one of each variety. Wards have a timer and must be maintained to keep the protection active.
In most seasons Boss Altars will have been removed. If it is age appropriate and you discover one, you may utilize it.
There are often multiple ways to get forsaken buffs. Some buffs have been disabled. If there are stones, use them normally.
PvP is always active, with no exceptions. This is not a full-loot server. All PVP requires roleplay and must stay within the rules for PVP. It is a way to enhance and support roleplay, not to harass and bully other players. Check out full rules and expectations for PVP here.
Exploring outside the starting area can be harder and more dangerous than vanilla. Mods are often buffed and can have a variety of auras and stats (you will see colored stars and or auras. Mods can have one aura and one color). This is designed to be a multiplayer experience. Work together with your fellow players to conquer these wild lands.

Players can form towns and/or guilds within the game through roleplay with at least 5 people involved. You may only be a part of one town but can be in up to three guilds. You will get a channel on Discord to coordinate roleplay. Once you have your members, you will make a ticket so moderators can confirm and set up your channel. Towns will also have the opportunity to purchase a portal for private use. (Guilds do not get this perk)
Any active player can schedule public events. Simply Make a ticket, and moderators can create a discord event to let everyone know about your event! Note: All events posted in Discord are considered “public” knowledge to all active characters on the server.
As much as we might like to, we can’t always be in game. Because of this, we have an in-character messaging system (Ravens) so you can interact with characters and extend roleplay that happens in game. (All messages must follow RP etiquette for discord) You can find the rules here
