We define griefing as any activity done for the sake of antagonizing a player rather than a character, or the act of intentionally causing distress to a person with limited or no story or character based reasoning or motivation.
Specific Examples of Griefing Include BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
This list is NOT exhaustive.
Self-Reports are mandatory for all raids and robberies. These are made in discord by using #Create-a-ticket. Select the Report action. There is no excuse for not self-reporting. If you don't have time to file a self-report you do not have time to commit the crime.
For Robberies:
For Raids:
For Dead/No Ward Robberies
Being knocked out is the end of a fight for both parties. RP before and after a fight are mandatory. You must accept consequences for your loss, or be magnanimous in your victory, and move on. You cannot continue fighting after being knocked out. This is considered Fail RP. That means when you are knocked out, you sit out of any other fighting that is ongoing. That means even if the active fight moves elsewhere, even if new people join in, etc. No matter what: your fight is finished.
If your fight is over a cause, a win is what settles that cause. For example, if you are fighting to defend your 15 raspberries, and you lose, your raspberries are forfeit.
Fred and Bob fight over a harvest of carrots. Bob is knocked out. Fred is the victor. Fred takes his share of the carrots and moves on, as does Bob. He can get revenge another day.
Fred and Bob fight over a harvest of carrots. Bob is knocked out. Bob puts his armor on and keeps fighting.
Fred and Bob fight over a harvest of carrots. Bob is knocked out. Bob relinquishes his carrots but Fred knocks Bob out again anyway.
Fred and Bob fight over a harvest of carrots. Bob is knocked out. Bob pretends this never happened and acts completely uninjured and ignores Fred.
You should roleplay as wounded when knocked out. Your life is precious and you should act to preserve it. If you are knocked out three times in rapid succession in VRP, you will be moved to world spawn. This should signal to you to RP as gravely wounded. You should seek out medical attention or stop the behavior that has caused you this harm.
Being knocked out does not mean your character is dead. Except for very few special circumstances, it is always and only your choice to permanently end your character.
Two exceptions to this exist: one of them are optional CK-Enabled dungeons for which entry is up to your own choice, and CK-Tickets, which you can read about here.
You are only permitted to play one character at a time on VRP. If you wish to permanently end your character and start a new one, you must #Create-A-Ticket and let us know your present character has died. You will need to wait three days to fill out a new application and have a new character approved. They cannot have any relationship of any kind to your previous characters.
All PVP requires a confrontation/RP before fighting commences. Attacking someone without warning is not allowed.
You and your allies block a busy stretch of river, and threaten all who come through it to pay a toll or fight you for access. Someone stands up to you and demands you put your sword where your mouth is. A fight ensues.
You come to a town and challenge the best of its people to come and fight you for blood and glory. You await your challenger. Someone finally steps to you with their sword drawn. You ask if they're prepared to fight. They say they are. Your battle commences.
You have an approved CK ticket against a local bandit. You hide in the bushes and shoot them when they walk by.
You enter a home and stab the owner before they even have a chance to know you're there.
Your group of raiders runs down a hill screaming for vengeance, attacking everyone they see.
A raid is defined as an unauthorized entry or attack on another player(s) resources or base. This includes boats and carts.
If you break something or build something to gain access to another player’s base it is considered a raid even if you do not take anything.
Raids must have a roleplay reason.
No offline raiding, the affected player(s) must be in-game, at the raid and interacted with.
Raiders can only break the following items in order to gain entry to a home or structure:
Defenders in a raid or PVP situation, or those wishing to escape an attack or raid, are free to flee from their own defenses or those placed by other characters by any means necessary. That means that if you are trapped in someone's dungeon you may escape through a wall, a roof or any other viable realistic means of escape without simply deleting them.
You are trapped in an attic and someone is coming to torture you into revealing information. You may use your ax to break a roof tile.
You are trying to escape from attackers. You use your pickaxe to break through a stone wall.
You are in a combat situation and middle click a wall to escape.
Raiding parties are limited to a maximum of 5 players but defenders may be limitless.
Players should not subvert defenses unrealistically. This includes but is not limited to:
Use of monsters to attack someone’s build is considered griefing and will result in a ban. If you come across a monster attacking someone’s house, report it immediately with screenshots or you may be found liable.
If a player is knocked out during a raid, they must let the raid continue and roleplay as wounded.
Defenders and Raiders must let wounded people collect their tombstones and sit out.
If there is a clear victor in the raid, the victor can demand things from the losing party. Raid demands must not be devastating to the loser, the primary win from a raid is bragging rights.
Unacceptable Raid: Bob has left to fight elsewhere, and I go into his house and take back my carrots before he even knows I was there.
Unacceptable Raid: Bob is not online from what I can tell, so I go to mess with his home while he is not in game.
Valid Raid: Me and three of my friends tell the leader of River City, who is both online and at his home, that his town is in direct violation of our demand of tribute. We are here to get our gold at any cost. Fight us if you must, but we're not leaving without it. He refuses to open the door to his home and won't part with the coins. We break our way in and knock he and any member of the town inside his house out. Now the price has gone up 100 gold, we collect it and leave.
Robbery is defined as any hostile action taken by a player or players on another player or players where items are taken via the threat or use of force.
A robber in confrontation must state their intentions. If given what you demand, you should not continue harassing your victim.
Like raids, a group of thieves or bandits will never exceed a group of five.
You can only rob someone of ONE item or a reasonable amount of a resource (e.g. a stack of berries, a few pieces of iron, what the victim offers to be left alone). If they refuse to comply with the robbery and choose to fight, two items can be taken from the defeated party. (If you don’t want someone to rob you of what they demand, try to offer them something else! Roleplay with your enemies!).
Do not steal nor take anything from a gravestone that you find or are created by your fights. If you come across a gravestone, you MUST to wait for the person to get back to their body so that you can rp with them before taking anything. Keep in mind, they will have to rp as a wounded person, so they shouldn't be able to resist your demands. If you find a gravestone in the wild, report it to the admins. You must have OOC permission with screenshots reported to the admin team if you are going to touch someone else’s gravestone.
Allowed | Not Allowed |
Gold (Up to 999) | Armor |
Consumables (Food, Potion, Mead) | Weapons |
Cheap Tools (Wood, Flint, and Stone) | Metal Tools |
Up to 15 Ore or Metal | Boats and Carts |
1 Stack of any non-metal resources | Quest Items |
1 tamed animal or Bee (If they have more than 2) | Weight Belts/Crowns |
Stealable special items: Dverger helmets, fishing rods, trophies (included bosses)
You may only take up to half of any resource. If all they own is 10 raspberries the most you can take is 5 of them.
If you fight and lose in a robbery you might lose two selections from the allowed list but no more. A robbery should never be devastating on resources.
A war is a series of planned PVP battles between two or more groups. The terms of the war are decided OOC with the understanding that the victors of the war will get to claim the spoils.
An admin must be present at all battles to validate the results.
At the conclusion of the war the victor must update #server-lore with a story of the battle.
At the conclusion of the war there is a 5 day cooldown for all parties involved.
A cooldown means that all parties involved cannot provoke the other side for further escalation. No raids, robberies or wars are allowed during the cooldown.
A declaration of war must be made IC by a group denouncing another and declaring War.
They must then open a ticket with a copy of the war declaration, RP reason for the War and desired outcome. Your side will have a representative in the ticket as will the opposition.
Other tickets will be opened with further representatives if needed where discussions can be had over the OOC negotiations for the war.
There are no limits as to what the battles may look like, how many there should be, or what the costs of defeat might entail. You may request territory, lives, items, servitude, the only limit is what you're willing to concede should you fail to achieve victory. Exceptions to standard world PVP rules may also be set as conditions for war. For example, you may decide that all combatants must wear a certain type of armor, may not be allowed to use shields may not eat certain foods, have potions, etc. Both sides must agree to every term.
In a timely manner you will be asked to decide
Whether or not the stakes are known IC is part of the negotiation process.
Ideally, the consequences for loss should not be completely debilitating.
A war should, unless agreed to by the parties involved, be the end of a conflict, a de-escalation and the settling of differences rather than another ramp up.
Dark RP is what we refer to as especially heinous acts of violence, long-term imprisonment, cannibalism, etc. Most Dark RP is not forbidden on the server in most instances, but require you to obtain consent from the victim(s) and a discussion as to what is intended to occur.
Anyone on the server is allowed to imprison, kidnap, or otherwise detain another player for up to one hour of real life time without a ticket or consulting with the victim(s). If someone abducts you in any manner that doesn't violate any other rule for one hour, you are expected to comply. Beyond that, a ticket and consent are required.
Torture and mutilation of another character requires consent within a ticket. You should discuss limits, what will be done, what the expectations are between players, etc. Cannibalism falls under this rule. You may not mutilate another player in RP as a heat of the moment action. It must be agreed upon.
Suicide is an act that should be taken seriously. If you wish to have your own character die where blame shall be assigned it must be ticketed prior to the act. Suicide blaming is a very serious act, and the ticket helps us communicate and prepare with those impacted. If you’re making a public statement with your suicide, try to reach out to those who will be exposed the same way you would with torture or kidnapping roleplay.
If someone is making it abundantly clear to you that you have stumbled into a scene that involves Dark RP and you refuse to leave the area, it is considered Griefing. Often times players will have worked for days if not weeks with each other setting these events up and will have done their due diligence to ensure everyone present consents to everything that is set to occur. They cannot gather the consent from you in that moment.
If you believe someone is acting inappropriately or have concerns about their RP, leave the area first, and then #create-a-ticket afterwards.
Lying in regards to just about anything IC is acceptable in VRP, and some characters may make it their entire personality. What you cannot do is lie about the occurrence of Dark RP including sexual assault or ERP. Insinuating that a character may have sexually assaulted someone, or lying that a player may have performed an act of torture on another without consent is forbidden in any and all cases IC or OOC. This is strictly enforced.
