All players are expected to play within the following rules set out below. We will enforce a strict code of conduct within our community and act on behaviour that breaks it.
Whilst our goal is to build a roleplaying experience that is free from constraints, we realize that we have a duty to protect all members of the VRP community.
We strive to create an environment; and by extension a community that promotes a welcoming atmosphere to all members; a community that its members can be proud to say they are a part of.
VRP holds a strong stance against any derogatory terms or actions against its members.
We will enforce a strict code of conduct within our community and act on items that are distasteful, for example: sexual harassment, excessive name calling or shaming, disrespectful attacks on a personal level, etc.
At the end of the day, we are all here to enjoy this world that we all play within. We are here to create a world with amazing and fun experiences.
Simply put; respect one another, have justification and reasoning for your actions. Simply saying "it is the way my character is" will not be considered a valid response.
Staff are always here to help with any matters or issues that arise no matter how big or small.
You can only have one active character at a time - the creation of a new character requires another application and the rendering of your previous character lost, killed, exiled, etc
You need a first and last name
You cannot use a god's name directly(variants are ok)
You cannot use modern / meme names
Your name must fit in-game, 15 character max including spaces
You must use your character name as your discord nickname and mumble name(no spaces)
examples: Sally Sue, Ragnar Odinson, Jeof Asmer, Bianca Oak
Do not go out of character whilst in-game.
Gamebreaking issues or problems must be addressed within RP, and later reported to the admin team.
Usage of "(OOC:)" brackets in text-chat is not acceptable.
If you are having technical issues with hearing other players
Example IC explanation: "Forgive me friend, it seems my ears are blocked - give me a moment to unblock them."
If you are experiencing bugs i.e. invisible or broken items
Example IC explanation: "Ahh! The gods/spirits play tricks on my eyes! I cannot see what you refer to."
Your character can only understand UI information they obtain with a role play reason.
The following items are identifiable by their 'Crafted by:' tag:
Extra UI information that the game gives you that is not obtained with a roleplay reason should not be used by your character.
Example1: You meet a player for the first time, you have also not heard of them before - You are not able to refer to them by name.
Example2: You see a boat in a dock, in that boat is a shield. Looking at the boat, you notice the typical etching of one of Binary's ships. Looking at the shield, you see the mark of Hurke, the smith.
Do not play in a way that does not make sense, breaking character, or otherwise doing something not suitable for the world.
Do not go out of character while in game. Discord, besides the pigeons, is for out of character.
Example1: You cannot talk about real life while in game
Example2: You see someone a rule broken, a glitch occur or someone not roleplaying correctly; You cannot call them out for this in-game. You must use discord for anything out of character. create a ticket for admin support.
Example3: you cannot use an unrealistic voice changer
Do not fight someone without roleplaying. In order to attack someone there has to be direct confrontation with roleplaying dialog before the fight begins.
Example1: you see a player with juicy loot. you cannot just snipe them from the shadows.
Example2: you want to fight someone. you cannot just randomly start attacking people.
You must value your life and make decisions accordingly. You can't just kamikaze / bull rush everything without fear.
Your character needs to have some limits and act somewhat realistically.
Example1: you are bored of exploring and want to get home fast, you cannot suicide.
Example2: a group of players hold you up 4v1, and make demands or will kill you. you must comply with their demands because you would surely die otherwise.
Example3: you know there is good loot in a chest but it is guarded by mobs way above your level and you have no chance of surviving. You cannot die, revive, and corpse run to your advantage.
Example4: the next island is quite far but you don't have a boat. you cannot just swim and hope for the best. you need to value your life enough to not throw it away swimming. You should be sure you can make it.
Example 5: You shouldn't be soloing high level mob camps / bosses. Your character should have a fear of death.
Roleplaying with more power than your character should have.
Every roleplaying scenario should have a chance of you failing.
Example 1: You cannot be a god.
Example 2: You cannot roleplay as invulnerable.
Example 3: You cannot make a minigame/quest and always win.
Example 4: You cannot roleplay having the favor of the gods / divine unless you have admin approval. If you want to roleplay religious power please use something like your belief/faith/devotion gives you power not an actual blessing from the gods.
Your character only knows what they have experienced in game and through in character communication.
You cannot use information gathered outside of the game.
You cannot use UI information your character hasn't experienced.
Example1: Knowing someone / their name before you have met them in character.
Example2: Knowing where people are going to be because they pinged on the map.
Example3: Knowing someone is going to be somewhere and waiting to rob them because you saw it on discord.
Example4: Knowing a key player will be offline and raiding their base during this time.
Example5: Using a location / map you saw in ooc when your character haasn't even been around the location.
When killed by another player, you must accept that as a lost fight.
Similarly, the winning player must be magnanimous in their victory.
It is always the decision of the character's player to perma-death their character, it cannot be forced on another.
You must accept consequences for your loss and move on.
Example1: Bob and Fred fight over a carrot. Fred dies. Fred cannot simply revive and go back to fighting Bob like nothing happened. Fred needs to accept his defeat and move on. Fred can acknowledge himself as wounded 'ow that really hurt, i must have blacked out' 'huh where am i' etc
Example2: Bob can't camp and kill Fred over and over either. Bob can't taunt Fred how he died.
This is a voice role playing server. Your primary interaction with any players should be through the mumble voice chat.
We welcome and accept that some users may prefer to use text roleplay - however all players will be required to be in the Mumble server.
If you are not in mumble, you cannot hear other players talking to you.
All pvp must have an in character roleplay reason behind it.
You must give some ic warning the pvp will start.
You must not use pvp as a tool for greifing.
You must not use the harpoon during PVP.
If pvp has no clear conclusion or one dies you must let the fight be resolved not continue fighting endlessly.
PVP IS NOT ALLOWED AT THE STONES / TAVERN / PORTALS AREA.
You should not be engaging newbies in pvp, let them get established first.
Example 1 - Bob has raided my settlement for carrots. My character goes to find him to challenge him. I walk up to bob and say "you stole my carrots, prepare to die.". I give him some chance to respond
Example 1 path A - Bob says "it wasn't me" and blames it on greydwarves and offers to help me recover my carrots. I accpet and we live happily ever after.
Examples 1 path B - Bob says "if death is what you want so be it". Pvp battle. I lose. I roleplay as wounded. Bob takes more of my carrots and leaves.
A raid is an unauthorized entry or attack another player(s) resources or base.
Raids need to have a role playing reason with story of the raid.
No offline raiding. The affected player must be in game.
When the target of your raid is online, but not present at the scene - adequate evidence must be left behind (i.e. signs, ravens, notices) -the victim must have some amount of 'breadcrumb trail' to follow up on.
Raids on bases can break doors / gates / walls to gain entry.
Players should not subvert defenses unrealisticly.
Destruction should be only to gain entry not to grief builds.
If a player dies during a raid, they must let the raid continue and roleplay as wounded.
Wounded players must sit out the fight, not run around in the middle of it.
Defenders and Raiders must let wounded people collect their tombstones.
If there is a clear victor in the raid, the victor can demand things from the losing party.
Raid demands must not be devastating to the loser, the primary win from a raid is bragging rights
No personal armor, weapons, tools, or 'personal items' (Small amounts of gold, food, cheap tools; are some examples of what is acceptable to take)
Not most of their resources (a few carrots from a field, not all of them) (1 or 2 bees, not all of them)
Raids must be recorded some how. In game messages, notices channel, somewhere in character.
Large raids on publicly known areas should be updated in server-lore channel in discord
5 player limit in the attacking raid party.
Defending party is limitless.
6 hour cooldown for raiders.
Bob and Sam have disliked eachother since bob drank sams mead. Bob goes to sam's base and yells at him to fight or he'll steal his carrots. Sam is afraid and hides. Bob breaks down the door and takes a few carrots.
The bandit tribe have traded with a local town and learned they have a massive store of supplies. The bandits spy and wait for a local towns person to go out then they hold him up and make them lead them to the storehouse. They take a couple stacks of food (a small amount comparing to the amount in the storehouse in total)
Sally knows that bob has lots of carrots so she waits for him to go offline, spends 10 minutes jumping over his walls and gaining access to his land, and steals all the carrots and leaves no notice. (bad)
A war is a planned pvp battle between some groups.
An admin must oversee the battle to validate result
kidnapping or imprisoning a character is a very drastic move and should be rare.
the total length is limited at 1 hour (or with victims consent longer)
this counts as a raid demand is subject to raid cooldown.
torture rp needs explicit consent in discord dm.
you must confirm this is ok with the victim before proceeding.
Relationships and public displays of affection are allowed everywhere.
Erotic/sexual roleplay should be in private outside of the game.
Players involved need to explicitly give ooc consent in discord dm before any erp proceeds.
Tamed created should be done with a roleplaying reason / story. You don't just get tamed creatures because it is convinient or you feel like it.
Tamed creatures should be limited to 2 following, 10 at home.
example 1: Fred is a farmer, he has 10 boars on his farm he slaughters for meat
example 2: Sandra is a mountain woman who befriended a wolf when it had a broken leg. The wolf is now her companion wherever she goes.
Whilst in-game, pressing F2 will bring up various metrics and UI - please note, this is META information, your character can not interpret this information.
Within the F2 menu, you can find 'Instances' - this is the primary metric used when building.
you must keep your builds below 12k instances max
it is recommended 10k instances or less
terraforming should be done on a limited basis.
Excessive terraforming causes lag for all players.
it is ok to flatten / raise / dig a small section for a specific purpose.
generally builds should be built around the existing terrain instead of extensive terrain edits.
this means no mountains, no making your own rivers, no moats, no flattening a whole hill for a city.
you are allowed 1 personal house and 3 wards, if you move you must destroy your old house.
If building belongs to a town or group of players, then the property does not need to be destroyed, and is the responsibility of the group
wards should cover your chests with items to keep them safe.
Building should be roleplayed.
1 person doesn't build an area alone instantly.
Your area starts small then gets improved gradually as roleplay dictates.
Building a large public area needs to be supported by other players.
Remember building far away means no one will ever come visit you, you'll get bored and have no RP.
Example1: Trade between bob's house and fred's house happens very often. They decide to team up and build a town together.
Example2: Many people frequent their town via boat so they build a dock.
Example3: They make enemies with bandits so decide to construct a wall.
Example4: Trade prospers with another town so they build things along the trade route.
Public locations are admin designated nuetral zones. No pvp, No gathering, No teraforming. The location is managed by the admin's please don't mess them up.
this includes: Spawn area, Admin Tavern, Portal hub and outlying portals, All boss altars, Trader - if you are unsure, please ask first!
You are not allowed to take items or modify builds in the tavern or areas created by admins without in character permission from tavern staff.
Ravens/Pigeons are short messages to be sent directly to another character. Usually including a @ping.
A physical setting where the raven is recieved.
A physical description of the raven and the message itself.
They should not be used like instant messaging, imagine them having a 2 or 3 hour travel time.
@BobTheSmith A fat sow walks into your smith shop and grunts loudly.
A hastily scrawled message is scribbed onto a piece of leather scrap.
"Bring me new shovel, i give lots bacon -Ted"
